Batchelor notes that the Buddha’s teachings did not dictate a belief in God, arguing that “what Buddhism offers is, I think, an atheism in a value-neutral sense… Namely, as the word literally means, not-theism.” —– Stephen Batchelor talks about Confession of a Buddhist Atheist. According to Batchelor, the outlook of the Buddha was far removed from the religiosity that has come to define much of Buddhism as we know it today. He argues that the Buddha was a man more focused on life in this world than the afterlife. – Book Passage Stephen Batchelor is an author and Buddhist scholar whose works include Living with the Devil, Meditation for Life, and Buddhism without Beliefs.

Divisions in Islam – the Fight Within the Faith
Islam is a complex religion, which according to CAIR (Council on American-Islamic relations), has 1.200 billion followers from every race and every century in the world. It has survived persecutions, subjugation and defamation since its founding by the prophet Mohammed (pbuh) in 1440ad. Since its founding, different sects and ideologies have spread from the original peaceful teachings over 1,000 years ago.
One of the most media popular sects in Islam is the Shia’s, they display their feelings of the Prophets brothers death by a ritual self-mutilation. This is expressed in ways such as taking sharp or bladed instruments and repetitively tapping their heads and/or body, even after they are bleeding. Though this display and personal expression of Islam may seem extreme but it is not any person’s place to say how one should follow their religion. There is guidance and there is personal expression.
With all of the media focus on the terrorism and Islam in the recent years, it has caused a very real division within the Islamic community and has forced Muslims to re-evaluate their beliefs and faith. The moderate Muslims believe in the right for all faiths to live peacefully together and the best way to show your disapproval over political issues is through peaceful protest and campaigning. The hard liner Muslims however believe that Islam is the only way and Sharia law must be imposed on society for there to be peace. These Muslims are referred to as extremists and their views are considered to be dangerous, as they are not opposed to using violence.
This rift within Islam is not felt by non-Muslims and they would never truly be able to feel the impact it has on someone unless it is you. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept 11, 2001, there have been numerous xenophobic attacks on Muslims around the world. Any terrorist attacks by extremists have often ended up affecting moderate Muslims. Peaceful and law abiding Muslims are being made to feel marganalised and as if they need to apologise for their religion because of these attacks even though the majority of Muslims abhor the use of violence.
The moderate Muslims have often tried to segregate themselves from the extremists but the media isn’t so kind in its portrayal of Islam and terrorism. Television, newspaper and radio are quick to point to Islam and terrorism as being related to one another. This misconception has caused a great amount of distress and is even counter productive in the fight against terrorism as it will only serve to further alienate those moderate Muslims who are already feeling persecuted for attacks they were never even responsible for.

Journey of Faith
What is our journey of faith and how do we get the true understanding of how faith works in our lives? How do we structure and build upon faith as we take our journey through life to where we become strong to the point of maturity?
Faith is the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld. It coveys the idea of something that underlies visible conditions and guarantees a future possession. Faith is, therefore, the basis for hope and the evidence for conviction concerning unseen realities. The entire body of truths delivered by Jesus Christ and his inspired disciples constitutes the true Christian “faith.”
As we go through our journey of faith to get true understanding, let us examine the farmer’s faith. The farmer prepares his soil and sows his seed, excepting, as in previous years, that the seed will sprout and that the plants will grow as they receive the needed moisture and sunshine. Likewise, the scientist has faith in the principles of his branch of science. He bases new experiments on past discoveries and looks for new discoveries on the basis of those things already established as true. Therefore, faith in the stability of the natural laws governing the universe actually constitutes a foundation for man’s plans and activities.
In many ways, “faith follows the thing heard.” Rom 10:17 says, ( So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.) John 4:39,41, says ( And many of the Samaritans had come to Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all that I ever did.” 41, And many more believed because of His word.)
Let us examine Abraham’s faith. When told to offer up Isaac, Abraham had strong faith that God would resurrect his son. He based such faith on God’s promise that it was by means of Isaac that “what will be called ‘your seed’ will be.” Gen. 21:12; says (But God said to Abraham, “Do not let it be displeasing in your sight because of the lad or because of your bondwoman. Whatever Sarah has said to you, listen to her voice; for in Isaac your seed shall be called.)
Jesus, on occasions, said to those who were healed, “Your faith has made you well.” Had those persons not exercised faith in Jesus, they would not have received healing for themselves. Likewise, the great faith of the army officer who entreated Jesus in behalf of his manservant rested on evidence, on the basis of which he concluded that Jesus’ merely ‘saying the word’ would result in the healing of his manservant.
Therefore, evidence for genuine conviction was also involved in the case of those who came to or who were brought to Jesus to be healed. Even if not eyewitnesses personally, they at least had heard about Jesus’ powerful works. Then, on the basis of what they saw or heard, they concluded that Jesus could heal them also. Moreover, they were acquainted with God’s Word and thus were familiar with the miracles performed by the prophets in times past.
However, we note that Jesus healed all who came to him, not requiring faith greater or less according to their disease, nor failing to heal any of these with the excuse that he could not do it because their faith was not strong enough, as so-called “faith healers” have done. Jesus performed these healings as a witness to establish faith. In his home territory, where much unfaithfulness was expressed, he chose not to perform many powerful works, not because of inability, but because the people refused to listen and were unworthy. Matt. 13:58 says, (Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.)
Christian Faith: As we continue in our journey of faith we discover that faith is not the possession of all people, as it is a fruitage of God’s spirit. 2 Thess 3:2 says,( and that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men; for not all have faith.) Gal 5:22 says ( But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.) Those lacking faith are rejected by God. Heb 11:6 says, (But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.)
For faith to be acceptable to God, it is necessary to accept Jesus Christ, and this makes possible a righteous standing with God. Gal 2:16 says, ( Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.)
A Christian’s faith is not static, but grows strong. 2 Thess 1:3 says, ( We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is fitting, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of every one of you all abounds toward each other.) Hence, the request of Jesus’ disciples, in Luke 17:5 ‘Give us more faith.” was very appropriate, and he did provide them the foundation for increased faith. He supplied them with greater evidence and understanding on which to base their faith.
The entire life course of a Christian is actually governed by faith, enabling them to overcome mountain like obstacles in their journey of faith that would hinder their services to God. 2 Cor 5:7 says, (For “we walk by faith, not by sight. Matt 21:21-22 says, So Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea, ‘It will be done. “And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.” )
We now, have the true understanding of faith through God’s Words, and how it works, and how it will work in our lives. In ever thing we do, let us exercise our faith as to grow and become strong. James 2:26 says, ( For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.) As we walk through our journey of faith, let us apply the works needed to mature, and let us conquer all life’s obstacles through prayer so that we may acquire God’s guidance.

(Chapter 51:1-10)
The Old Testament verses from 1-10 say that the Israelites outnumbered the Egyptians (See: A: The first part).
The New Testament verses from 1-10 are states that Jesus said: I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
The Noble Quran Verses from 1-10 are talking about different subjects, one of them is that the promise of the Afterlife is a true one (see: C: The third part – I and II).

New Testament
Chapter 51 in the New Testament is Luke 7;
it is composed of 51 verses.
Verses from 1-10 are talking about:
When Jesus had finished saying all this in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum. There a centurion’s servant, whom his master valued highly, was sick and about to die. The centurion heard of Jesus and sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant. When they came to Jesus, they pleaded earnestly with him, “This man deserves to have you do this, because he loves our nation and has built our synagogue.” So Jesus went with them.
He was not far from the house when the centurion sent friends to say to him: “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. That is why I did not even consider myself worthy to come to you. But say the word, and my servant will be healed. For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him, and turning to the crowd following him, he said, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith even in Israel.” Then the men who had been sent returned to the house and found the servant well.
———-
These verses illustrate that the centurion respects Jesus very much.
He sent some elders of the Jews to him, asking him to come and heal his servant.
But he realized that he does not deserve to have Jesus come to him.
Jesus considered that an outstanding faith.
Jesus said: I have not found such great faith even in Israel, because the Jews showed no respect to him.
According to the saying of the Lord Jesus, all the Muslims have more faith than the centurion; why? Because:
all the Muslims respect the Lord Jesus and his mother very much
None of the Muslims dares to ask the Lord Jesus to come to him
None of the Muslims dares to say to the Lord Jesus: “I tell this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and that one, ‘Come,’ and he comes. I say to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
It follows that, according to the saying of the Lord Jesus, all the Muslims have an outstanding faith more than that the centurion had.

Luke 7 (King James Version)
1] Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.
2] And a certain centurion’s servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die.
3] And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant.
4] And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this:
5] For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue.
6] Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof:
7] Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.
8] For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
9] When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
10] And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.

Comparative Study between the Bible versus the Quran (51) – B:
The second part
(Chapter 51:1-10)
The Old Testament verses from 1-10 say that the Israelites outnumbered the Egyptians (See: A: The first part).
The New Testament verses from 1-10 are states that Jesus said: I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.
The Noble Quran Verses from 1-10 are talking about different subjects, one of them is that the promise of the Afterlife is a true one (see: C: The third part – I and II).

New Testament
Chapter 51 in the New Testament is Luke 7;
it is composed of 51 verses.
==========

The Collision of Faith and Fact
May 30th
The Collision of Faith and Fact
Faith and Fact collided like atoms in an atomic accelerator to form a new reality for me.
It was like going from believing the earth to be flat to it being a sphere.
James demonstrates that the soul survives the dimensions of time and space.
Soul Survivor is that story-period!!
As a Christian the story challenged my faith in every way that faith can be challenged — the journey of discovery was a fearful one — the destination of fact affirmed it. Soul Survivor suggests the answer to our salvation and redemption that Christians chase throughout this life on earth. Other than the acceptance of Jesus Christ as my Savior — this experience is the most profound of my life.
Chapter Twenty-Eight
Bruce had staged a fighting retreat from the wild conjectures over the meaning of his son’s nightmares. He had dug in and insisted that, whatever they were, they were not proof of a past life. Yet, he had lost the battle over the name, Natoma Bay — it was an American ship, not Japanese. Jack Larson turned out to be a real person who flew off of a real aircraft carrier. The knowledge his son had of airplanes and flying was uncanny; the battles in the Pacific were real and the veterans vouched for the details. Finally, he had to accept that James Huston was the pilot who was killed in his son’s horrific nightmares.
Still, he had held out over the fact that James insisted that he flew a Corsair in the war and no Corsairs were reported on Natoma Bay. And now that last bunker had fallen. He had the picture of James Huston standing in front of a Corsair.
He was starting to believe in something beyond reason.
I was baptized and raised as a Methodist. I grew up going to church every Sunday with my mother and sister. My father had very little to do with church. Church is a place that makes me feel comfortable, safe, welcome.
In college, my attendance slipped, but I went to church with friends of different denominations — to see what they were like. I went to Buddhist Temples, Catholic cathedrals, Lutheran, Pentacostal, Episcopalian . . . most of the other Protestant churches. I even went to Synagogues.
But as I matured, I became connected to the Evangelical Christian movement, eventually finding myself involved with a Full Gospel Christian Businessman’s Fellowship.
We met every two weeks for Bible study, discussion and trying to assimilate the Word into our lives. It was a dramatic journey. I studied the Bible intensely. The Holy Spirit was demonstrated for me in praying in Tongues, Faith Healing and what we call Discernment.
I have witnessed Healings that I know were genuine.
I have personally realized the true power of Prayer. I prayed for a second chance after my first marriage failed because I was spiritually lost. I prayed for a wife with green eyes — and one who was Asian — and my second wife, Dre, has green eyes and her mother is one half Philippino.
Suffice to say that I feel I am a developed Christian on a continuous path of spiritual growth.
If James’ nightmares were truly a manifestation of a past life — a proof of reincarnation — then, as I saw it, it would threaten the Biblical promise of Salvation. If the immortal soul can randomly transfer from person to person, generation to generation, then what does that imply for the Christian orthodoxy of Redemption? What happens on Judgment Day if the immortal soul is handed off like that? It goes against the Evangelical teaching of rebirth through a spiritually transformed personal life through Jesus Christ.
The impact of James’s story on my spiritual well-being . . . well, it felt like spiritual warfare. My purpose for disproving what was happening to my son was to establish that this was all a coincidence — as astronomically remote as that possibility seems.
Of course, I was drawn into this by setting up these tests, establishing questions that had to be answered, all the while, I was getting closer and closer to something . . . dangerous . . . it was like putting my hand in a fire . . . ¹
One may put their hand into a fire and in time it would heal — but ferreting out answers that could threaten a complete belief system was scary.
I was traveling a strange road lost in the fog searching for an unknown destination. The questions were simple — but the answers could destroy my lifelong beliefs and threaten my salvation. During the journey there were plenty of times I wanted to stop — but a voice of compulsion drove me forward. My effort centered on my love and concern for my son. When I first encountered the full force of his nightmares a movie “The Exorcist” hit me square in the face.
James might be demon possessed! With every step of validation about what he told us the fog began to lift and the destination became clearly visible.
James had experienced a past life and/or reincarnation had occurred — the exact conclusion I did not want to accept. It took time as I measured the fruit that this tree of experience produced.
In the end Faith and Fact collided like atoms in an atomic accelerator to form a new reality. It was like going from believing the earth to be flat to it being a sphere. James demonstrated the soul survives the dimensions of time and space.
As a Christian the story challenged my faith in every way that faith can be challenged. “Soul Survivor” suggests the answer to our yearning for salvation and redemption that Christians chase throughout their life on earth. Other than the acceptance of Jesus Christ as my Savior — this experience is the most profound of my life. “Soul Survivor” is that story-period!! It left me with many unanswered questions that involve how and why.
